Creative Writing: Week 1

Cleopatra Mathis: Moonsnail

Other Links: Audio Ploughshares

In Mathis's poem Moonsnail, she talks about the moonsnail's shape, color and how one would expect it to feel if they ran their hand next to it. How it is beautiful and the reader becomes delited at the narrative description. The color how it traveled from aways upon the ocean water to land on the sandy area. She finds a group of them. I enjoyed this poem because I become so entrapped in something and fail to think of the other things. I too can lost in the look of something. Maybe not a moonsnail, but an broken egg or dried up sponges and seaweed from the ocean.

Things change in the poem when she divulges that she does not like the empty ones per se; the shell still needs to be attached to the body so she can flip them. Then after the sun bakes them and the ants go away will a load on their back she can shake to rest, leaving a nice fresh look inside the shell. I posted the pictures above so others who might not know what a moonsnail was. :)

New Place

Tomorrow, or rather today I embark on an adventure. Afterall, every event in life is a new adventure, isn't it? I move down the street from where I grew up on Lincoln Street. Part of me wonders why, yet filled with excitement, and yet part of the unknown is reluctant.

My living arrangements for the last few years has been chaotic to say the least. Thinking about that, I remember as a child my parents moving, about every three years. I will write more soon, I know I have been bad at doing this blog thing, but I think I am ready.

Get Away from My Desk Award

I was going through my collection of stuff from my best and came across and old award I just loved and wanted to share it with y'all. I was in the 6th grade at Montello School in Lewiston, Maine. I had a desk in front of the class. I could see the chalkboard and the bulletin board. The bulletin board was my art studio. I designed it and fixed it all up. If I would become upset I recall going up and taking it down and starting a new one, didn't matter if class was going on or not.
The classroom was pretty neat we got drawers to store our things. We usually shared them with two other people. I would hide the jumprope in the top caddies.
At recess if you found or had the jumprope you didn't have to hold an end. So I began hiding it, I was not great at jumping rope but did ok. This year I signed up for the talent show. Debbie Gibson was big that year, a girl named Tracy [D] did Debbie Gibson song. I forgot what I wanted to do, something great I would imagine.
I was in chorus for a little while, but didn't care for Mr. Nutting. The science fair proved cool, even had pizza with Melissa [G] from the band, after a day with Jara [J] where we would sign contracts to be friends, and she forewarned that all she had to do was rip them up and poof contract ended, no longer friends. I would venture to her house after school sometimes, she had two younger sisters and we would play school or something up in the attic. My science fair project was on sweat glands this year. I had gotten a few awards for achievement in art. Loved art gluing all kinds of stuff on a page, feathers, art and all. The science fair I ended up being some dancing for La Bamba with some guy standing in a chair named Rickey. Charlene & Jaime [J] helped out with the Talent Show. I got to name it. Entertainment Tonight, probally off the program on television.
I got married in the yard during recess. This girl, I don't even recall liking much, Christina or Kris [M] and me were to get married in the school playground. Everyone knew or so it seemed. I got a divorce and hired Carrie [L] as my lawyer and Tracy [D] was the minister.
At the end of the year everyone got an award. Mine as I consider to be unique was the 'Get Away from My Desk Award" I'll post the picture in a bit.

Taking Your Breath Away

Did you know that you can literally take someone’s breath away from a kiss. I tell you no lie, and I am here to show you just how. Kissing has been around since the beginning of time and is a skill one must master in order to reap the full benefits. The skills you learn after mastering can help you improve your love life or even surprise an unexpected partner, who is accustomed to one of those sloppy dog licks you call a kiss. No, people do not like the tongue darting in, that is just gross; unless you master the art of kissing and take your partners breath away.

First and foremost you need to actually look at your partner. None of these close your eyes when you kiss moves. You need to conjure up the moment. Look into your partners eyes. Depending on what you may be doing, even the slightest touch you will notice a sparkle or glossy effect in their eye. Be within a foot of the person whom you intend to kiss.

Secondly, watch their breathing pattern. Research in the Karma Sutra and other Love improving guides neglect to tell you that this part can enhance both your mood and your partners. You match the breathing pattern. Breathe in as you partner does. Do not let on that you are copying their breathing pattern. Do this for a few minutes so you are comfortable and have it exactly like your partners.

Thirdly, make sure your lips are ready. Drink a glass of water or something to moisten the inside of your mouth. You want your lips dry, but not to dry. If you apply lipstick or chap stick wait till the air dries it out a bit. If you’re a drooler than perhaps you need to stay away from the drinks before you kiss. No one likes spit in their mouth, unless its their own.

Move in slowly. The last step will take about five seconds and if you did it correctly you will understand how you can master the art of kissing with this one method. Get close and gently place one hand behind your partners head. You will notice your heart rate elevating and you should become a little flush. Than when get ready, lick your lips and breathe out. Time your next exhale as your partner inhales. When your partner exhales his or her breath your lips will meet. Lips locked and you inhale their breathe.

You have successfully took their breathe away. Your partner will feel a good sensation and you, will begin the journey to mastering the art of kissing.
